While much attention is being given to the new taxes on novel nicotine products proposed for the European Union, the future of vaping regulation in the UK is also entering a decisive phase.
At the same time, the EU is advancing its Tobacco Tax Directive (TTD), while November’s 11th Conference of the Parties (COP11) to the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) could bring global measures such as bans on devices or flavours. Such international developments would not directly affect the UK in the short term, but they have the potential to reshape the country’s strategy on tobacco harm reduction.
