3rd March 2025: Czech Republic: The State Agricultural and Food Inspection Authority has updated the list of notified tobacco products and their ingredients.
20th February 2025: EU, Austria, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Poland, Romania, Slovakia: The comments and detailed opinions provided by the European Commission, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Greece and Italy on the Austrian TRIS notification 2024/0610/AT have been published. The standstill period of the notification, which concerns an Austrian ordinance specifying prohibited substances in tobacco products and e-liquids, has been extended to 8th May based on the comments raised. All commenting countries argue that a ban on glycerol, proposed by the Austrian ordinance, would, in addition to going beyond EU requirements, result in a de facto ban on all e-liquids since glycerol is an essential ingredient in the manufacture of e-liquids and an important additive in tobacco products. This would effectively make the manufacture of vaping products technically unfeasible.

20th December 2024: Czech Republic: According to the Excise Tax Act (consolidated budget package), the heated tobacco rate will increase to CZK3.97 (€0.16) in 2025. The rate for nicotine pouches will increase to CZK0.80 (€0.032) per g in 2025.

28th November 2024: Czech Republic: In the statement by the Czech Republic on the subject of the EU Council recommendation on smoke- and aerosol-free environments replacing Council recommendation 2009/C 296/02, the country said it believes the recommendation is a step towards reducing tobacco and related product harm. However, the country emphasises that public health policies must be rational, realistic and aligned with national strategies. It advocates for a balanced approach focusing on prevention and harm reduction. Additionally, the Czech Republic stresses the importance of considering the relative harm of different tobacco and nicotine products. It anticipates that this perspective will influence the upcoming revision of the 2014/40 directive.

21st August 2024: Czech Republic: The Czech government has received an open letter from 76 foreign experts from 27 countries calling on it to continue the implementation of outgoing national anti-drug coordinator Jindřich Vobořil’s proposals and policies, media reports. These proposals focus on, among other things, a regulated cannabis market as well as on addiction prevention.
