EU member states voice concerns over plan revising Tobacco Taxation Directive

European commissioner for climate, net zero and clean growth Wopke Hoekstra presented the proposal for a revision of the Tobacco Taxation Directive (TTD) to the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) last week on 10th October.

The proposal was welcomed by all European Union member states, as they supported the general objectives it set out, namely the protection of public health through taxation rules, the increase of revenues collected at the national level from tobacco taxes, and the harmonisation of minimum rates for tobacco and related products done to avoid distortions across member states.
