EC sets early 2026 TPD goal, hinting at stricter rules for new nicotine products

The Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) might be adopted by early next year. The European Commission (EC)’s public consultation website on the evaluation and review of the tobacco control framework has recently been updated to indicate that a proposal is now planned for adoption in the first quarter of 2026.

However, the schedule has been updated in the past and the Commission has missed the deadline. Previously, the site was updated in January 2024 to show adoption in the third quarter of 2024, and before that it had indicated the second quarter of 2023.
